MISS PRISS Collectible JAM JAR:
This adorable kitten is a jam jar. A spoon is attached to the kitty's head. This particular piece was made by Lefton. This Lefton kitty is "Miss Priss."
During the 1950s-1960s whimsical household items were a very popular collectible. The jam jar with the attached spoon was referred to as Pixieware. Pixieware is a Holt Howard trademark, but soon after Holt Howard trademarked "Pixieware" other companies including Lefton, Napco, Enesco, Royal Sealy, Lipper & Mann and Beatson began making similar items. Most of the pieces by Holt Howard sold for $1.
Although you can occasionally find a Pixieware item or a Pixieware Wannabe for under $100 most sell for more than a hundred and prices can go up to $400 or more depending on the rarity of the piece. This particular piece by Lefton is reasonably priced by comparison. Holt Howard seems to comand the highest prices, but this one is my favorite of all the pieces I have seen to date. For more photos, see the Collectibles Photo Gallery.
